Murray: DeVos Privatization Proposal is “Dead on Arrival” in Congress

The following press release was published by the Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions on Feb. 28, 2019. It is reproduced in full below.

Washington, D.C. - U.S. Senator Patty Murray (D-WA), ranking member of the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee, released the following statement today on Secretary DeVos’ proposal to create tax credits for privatization vouchers.

“Secretary DeVos keeps pushing her anti-public school agenda despite a clear lack of support from parents, students, teachers, and even within her own party. Congress has repeatedly rejected her privatization efforts and she should expect nothing less here. This proposal is dead on arrival and I’m going to keep fighting for what people actually want-improving the public schools in neighborhoods around the country that serve the vast majority of our students."
