Washington, D.C. - U.S. Senator Patty Murray (D-WA), ranking member of the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee, released the statement below following the House of Representatives vote on the Raise the Wage Act today, which would gradually raise the minimum wage to $15 an hour. Senator Murray is a cosponsor of the Raise the Wage Act in the Senate.
“Today’s vote in the House of Representatives is an important step toward ensuring that millions of workers, especially women-who make up two-thirds of minimum wage earners, are given a much deserved raise so they can support themselves and their families. In order to truly make a difference for working families, the Senate must act now-and I’m calling on Leader McConnell to bring the Raise the Wage Act up for a vote as soon as possible."
