Murray Responds to Latest Trump Administration Proposal to Raise Patients’ Health Care Costs

The following press release was published by the Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions on July 10, 2020. It is reproduced in full below.

(Washington, D.C.) - Today, U.S. Senator Patty Murray (D-WA), ranking member of the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee, released the following statement in response to a new proposal from the Trump Administration that would allow legacy health care plans to raise patients’ out-of-pocket costs.

“This is yet another way President Trump is putting profits first and letting companies raise families’ health care costs. Regardless of what the President wants to believe, we’re in the middle of a pandemic that is devastating families’ health and finances. This is no time to leave patients with higher health care bills they can’t afford, and yet every move from President Trump makes clear that’s the cornerstone of his health care agenda."
