BLM awards leases to Minersville Solar for construction of giant solar farm to 'generate renewable energy'

Minersville Solar Energy LLC has been awarded leases to construct a giant solar farm on approximately 4,800 acres of public land in Utah's Escalante Desert, a Wednesday press release from the Bureau of Land Management's (BLM) Utah State Office said.

Minersville Solar Energy LLC will develop the solar energy buildings in Utah's Beaver County within the Milford Flats South Solar Energy Zone, the release said.

"BLM Utah is committed to utilizing public lands to generate renewable energy, including wind and geothermal power, which not only provide jobs but power our lifestyles and generate clean, reliable solar energy for our communities," BLM Color Country District Manager Gloria Tibbetts said in the release. "We are pleased to offer these leases to Minersville Solar Energy LLC and will continue to work closely with this partner, along with our community and Tribal governments, to ensure responsibly developed parcels maximize solar energy production while minimizing impacts to our natural environment."

Last year, a notice of competitive offer was released in the Federal Register, which began the bidding process to lease the three parcels, with Minersville Solar Energy eventually submitting the winning bid of $164,444.
