The National Park Service has named a new superintendent of Grand Canyon-Parashant National Monument in Arizona.
In an April 20 news release, the National Park Service announced Ben Roberts would be the permanent superintendent of the national monument, aftering filling the role in an acting capacity since November 2021.
"I am honored to join the amazing staff at Grand Canyon-Parashant National Monument," Robert said, according to the release. "Together we will continue the work of protecting the monument's wild and remote landscape, its diverse resources and its rich culture of historic and tribal uses. I am excited to work closely with the Bureau of Land Management, who share a unique relationship with us in co-managing the monument."
"Roberts brings over two decades of NPS experience to this role," said Regional Director Frank Lands, in the release. "His knowledge of interagency partnerships, project management, natural resources and the importance of community relationships make him a great fit for this position."
Roberts was a biologist with the Peace Corps in Morocco 1996-98 before coming to the National Park Service, where he began as a Natural Resource Specialist in 2000, the release reported.
He has a bachelor's degree in natural resource management from Colorado State University, according to his LinkedIn page. He completed graduate coursework in restoration ecology at the University of Idaho.
