The U.S. seafood industry was hit hard during the pandemic in 2020. But seafood demand didn't go anywhere. Some reports showed seafood consumption in the United States actually increased as people were staying home and cooking, and trying a variety of new things—not just sourdough.
The U.S. demand for healthy, sustainable seafood was just one of the storylines we heard a lot about at Seafood Expo North America in Boston, Massachusetts—the largest gathering of the seafood community on the continent. Participants ranged from small boat fishermen to oyster farmers to global distributors. And there at the Expo—representing U.S. policy, regulations, and strategy—was NOAA Fisheries.
