On Friday, May 6, 2022, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Rio Puerco Field Office will host a grand reopening ceremony at El Malpais National Conservation Area Ranger Station.
The reopening ceremony will celebrate the 34th anniversary of El Malpais Day, proclaimed by former Governor of New Mexico Garrey Carruthers on May 6, 1988, as well as the reopening of the ranger station. Bureau of Land Management leadership and partners will provide remarks to commemorate this special day. Afterward, visitors and speakers will be invited to enjoy refreshments, along with the opportunity to explore the newly renovated ranger station.
The ranger station is located approximately nine miles along NM Highway 117, south of Interstate 40 exit 89, near Grants, New Mexico. Normal operating hours of the ranger station are Friday through Sunday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Questions about the El Malpais National Conservation Area Ranger Station should be directed to the Bureau of Land Management Outdoor Recreation Planner Jennifer Merino at 505-761-8993 or jmerino@blm.gov.
