Grassley Statement on President's Prescription Drugs Proposal

The following press release was published by the United States Committee on Finance Ranking Member’s News on Jan. 29, 2001. It is reproduced in full below.

Sen. Grassley issued the following comment today:

"It's very helpful that the President has sent to Capitol Hill his proposal to quickly establish a prescription drug program for low-income seniors. It is an important signal of his commitment to Medicare beneficiaries and his proposal will keep the pressure on Congress to reach agreement on how to improve Medicare. Ultimately, I hope that we'll be able to couple a Medicare drug benefit along with modernization of the Medicare program. It's important for both beneficiaries and taxpayers that the resources going to the Medicare program are used efficiently in order to provide 21st century health care to our nation's seniors - to keep them out of the hospital and in the comfort of their own homes - and move beyond 1965 medicine."
