Grassley Statement on the Vietnam Trade Agreement

The following press release was published by the United States Senate Committee on Finance Chairman's News on June 8, 2001. It is reproduced in full below.

President Bush has submitted the U.S.-Vietnam Trade Agreement to Congress. Sen. Chuck Grassley, ranking member of the Committee on Finance, earlier encouraged the President to send the agreement. Grassley made the following comment on today’s action.

“In 1991, then-President George Bush laid out a road map for normalizing relations with Vietnam. President Clinton, putting our national interest first, diligently pursued this policy. Today’s actions by President George W. Bush mark another historic step on the road to better and more prosperous relations for both the people of the United States and Vietnam. I’m confident that the President’s request for normal trade relations for Vietnam will attract strong bipartisan support in the Senate."
