Grassley on More Disclosure for Red Cross Donors

The following press release was published by the United States Senate Committee on Finance Chairman's News on June 5, 2002. It is reproduced in full below.

Sen. Chuck Grassley, ranking member of the Committee on Finance, on May 7 wrote to theAmerican National Red Cross to better understand how it intends to deliver disaster relief, particularly “9-11" monetary relief, judiciously and with due speed to qualified recipients. Grassleyasked for a response by June 14. Grassley made the following comment on today’s Red Crossannouncement about revised information for potential donors.

“I look forward to seeing the details of this plan, but these steps sound positive. Giving toa charity isn’t a frivolous act. People think hard about how much they can afford and where theirmoney will do the most good. Charities should treat them accordingly. The more transparency fromthe Red Cross to potential donors, the better. Transparency instills public confidence."
