The following press release was published by the United States Senate Committee on Finance Chairman's News on Nov. 1, 2002. It is reproduced in full below.

Sen. Chuck Grassley, ranking member of the Committee on Finance, today made the following comment on the Securities and Exchange Commission Inspector General’s investigation into whether Chairman Harvey Pitt concealed information about William Webster from fellow commissioners.

“As a strong supporter of inspectors general throughout government, I’m confident this is the right course of action on this issue. I hope this inspector general, like those at every other agency, will be able to conduct his investigation independently and with full cooperation from everyone involved."
