Grassley Comment on the Treasury Secretary's Resignation

The following press release was published by the United States Senate Committee on Finance Chairman's News on Dec. 6, 2002. It is reproduced in full below.

Sen. Chuck Grassley, incoming chairman of the Committee on Finance, today made the following statement regarding the resignation of Treasury Secretary Paul O’Neill.

“I worked very closely with Paul O’Neill to get the largest tax cut in a generation passed through Congress. Mr. O’Neill deserves a lot of credit for his work on the tax relief package. I enjoyed Paul O’Neill’s candor about everything. More of his unreserved honesty is needed inside the Beltway. Paul O’Neill serves as an example of unselfish service for the good of the American people that more of corporate America should follow.

“As chairman of the Senate Committee on Finance, I look forward to working with the White House and moving quickly in finding a successor."
