Comment on the Treasury Secretary Nominee

The following press release was published by the United States Senate Committee on Finance Chairman's News on Dec. 9, 2002. It is reproduced in full below.

Sen. Chuck Grassley, incoming chairman of Committee on the Finance, today made the following comment on the nomination of John W. Snow for the position of Treasury secretary.

“I look forward to learning more about John Snow through the nomination process. From what I know, he has several interesting attributes. One is his extensive business experience. We need a Treasury secretary who understands job creation. Another is his earlier comments about cleaning up corporate wrongdoing. I agree that restoring confidence in corporations is a key part of rejuvenating economic growth.

“Mr. Snow’s nomination will be considered by the Finance Committee. As is the norm for nominees, the President will send over a formal nomination, and the committee will send the nominee a detailed questionnaire. After the candidate completes the questionnaire, the committee will schedule a nomination hearing. I hope this process will move forward as quickly as possible."
