Grassley on the New IRS Commissioner Nominee

The following press release was published by the United States Senate Committee on Finance Chairman's News on Jan. 13, 2003. It is reproduced in full below.

Sen. Chuck Grassley, incoming chairman of the Committee on Finance, today made the following comment on the announcement of the nomination of Mark W. Everson to serve as the commissioner of the Internal Revenue Service.

“I’m glad the administration found a candidate for IRS commissioner. The position is critical and shouldn’t be vacant at all. I’m pleased the administration named a nominee who has some business experience, which I’d cited as a priority. As chairman of the Finance Committee, I’ll review the nomination closely to ensure that the taxpayers are served by an IRS commissioner who can deliver better taxpayer assistance and improved tax administration."
