Grassley, Colleagues Introduce Resolution Urging Ag Trade Liberalization

WASHINGTON -- Sen. Chuck Grassley, chairman of the Committee on Finance, today joinedhis colleagues in introducing a resolution expressing the Senate’s expectation that upcoming tradetalks create a more level playing field in the world market for U.S. farmers and ranchers. Theresolution expresses the sense of the Senate on the goals of the United States in the Doha round ofWorld Trade Organization agriculture negotiations. A similar resolution was adopted duringcommittee consideration of the Miscellaneous Trade and Technical Corrections Act of 2003, whichwas reported by the Finance Committee on Feb. 27, 2003.

“I hope we’ll pass this resolution as soon as possible," Grassley said. “It sends a clear signalto our negotiators that a strong agreement that works for U.S. agriculture is key to gainingcongressional support for the Doha round negotiations."
