Grassley on IRS Employees' Tax Compliance

The following press release was published by the United States Committee on Finance Ranking Member’s News on Jan. 2, 2004. It is reproduced in full below.

Sen. Chuck Grassley, chairman of the Committee on Finance, made the following comment on the IRS’ efforts to enforce employee tax compliance.

“Zero tolerance is the right standard for IRS employees’ tax abuse. I appreciate the commissioner’s aggressive approach to nipping this in the bud. Since IRS employees enforce the tax laws, they’re in an informed position to abuse the tax laws. While few employees are likely to cheat on their taxes, it’s important to find and punish those who do."
