Chairman Grassley’s letter to SFBC International

The following press release was published by the United States Committee on Finance Ranking Member’s News on Nov. 18, 2005. It is reproduced in full below.

Dear Mr. Hantman:

The Committee on Finance (Committee) has jurisdiction over the Medicare andMedicaid programs, among other matters. Accordingly, the Committee is responsible tothe more than 80 million Americans who receive health care coverage under thoseprograms, including payment for drugs and medical devices. As Chairman of theCommittee, I am greatly concerned by a special report published in the December 2005issue of Bloomberg Markets, entitled, “Big Pharma’s Shameful Secret" (BloombergReport).

The purpose of this letter is to request that SFBC International cooperate with theCommittee's review of matters related to the Bloomberg Report and subsequent relatedarticles published by Bloomberg. As Chairman of the Committee, I request that you meetwith my Committee staff to discuss reported allegations related to SFBC International byno later than Dec. 16, 2005. In cooperating with the Committee's review, nodocuments, records, data or information related to these matters shall be destroyed,modified, removed or otherwise made inaccessible to the Committee.

Thank you in advance for providing the name and contact information, includingan email address, for a person who will act as the point of contact for SFBCInternational during the Committee’s review. Please forward this information to theCommittee by no later than 5:30 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 21, 2005.
