Baucus Comment on Sebelius Nomination

The following press release was published by the United States Committee on Finance Ranking Member’s News on April 2, 2009. It is reproduced in full below.

Washington, DC - Senate Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus (D-Mont.) today reiterated his support for Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary-designate Governor Kathleen Sebelius at a hearing to consider her nomination. Baucus called Governor Sebelius the type of leader Congress will need at the Department to achieve comprehensive health reform this year.

“Comprehensive health reform is my number one priority this year. With Governor Sebelius at the helm of the Department of Health and Human Services, I am even more confident we will achieve that goal," Baucus said. “She’s been an Insurance Commissioner and she knows the nuts and bolts of the health care system. And, she’s been a Governor so she knows how to reach across the aisle and get things done. She’s the right person for the job, and I look forward to a vote on her confirmation as soon as possible."
