Hatch Announces Executive Session to Consider CMS Nominee

The following press release was published by the United States Committee on Finance Ranking Member’s News on Feb. 27, 2017. It is reproduced in full below.

WASHINGTON - Senate Finance Committee Chairman Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) today announced the Committee will mark up the nomination of Seema Verma to serve as Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Administrator in an executive session on Wednesday, March 1, in Room 215 of the Dirksen Senate Office Building at 10:30 a.m.

“Seema Verma has the knowledge and extensive private sector experience necessary to lead CMS," Hatch said. “Under the Obama administration, the responsibilities and purview of CMS grew at an alarming rate, in large part as a result of Obamacare. Coupled with the challenges facing both Medicare and Medicaid, we need a leader like Seema Verma to work alongside Congress as we work to improve the administration of our entitlement programs and refocus the responsibilities of the agency on patients, not the Washington bureaucracy. Throughout her confirmation hearing she demonstrated a clear vision for addressing the challenges facing CMS, and I look forward to advancing her nomination through the Committee for full Senate consideration."
