Wyden Statement on HHS Proposed Rule on Drug Rebates

The following press release was published by the United States Senate Committee on Finance Chairman's News on Jan. 31, 2019. It is reproduced in full below.

Senate Finance Committee Ranking Member Ron Wyden, D-Ore., today issued a statement after the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) released a proposed rule that changed how pharmacy benefit managers (PBMs) can use drug rebates in federal health care programs:

“For years I’ve said the middlemen have no accountability and consumers don’t see any savings at the pharmacy counter," Wyden said. “I’m going to go the next step and push to force drug companies to lower their list prices to fully account for the removal of rebates rather than pocket the difference as a windfall."
