Wyden Statement on Treasury Secretary Mnuchin's Testimony on Harriet Tubman $20 Bill

The following press release was published by the United States Senate Committee on Finance Chairman's News on June 14, 2019. It is reproduced in full below.

Senate Finance Committee Ranking Member Ron Wyden, D-Ore., today released the following statement on reports that Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin misled the House Financial Services Committee about putting Harriet Tubman on the $20 bill:

“Reporting from the New York Times indicates that Secretary Mnuchin provided misleading testimony about the administration’s failure to meet the 2020 deadline to put Harriet Tubman on the $20 bill. Rather than technical delays, it appears the administration simply does not want to see an African-American woman placed on our currency. Congress needs answers about how far along the redesign was before Secretary Mnuchin blocked it."
