Wyden Statement on National Taxpayer Advocate’s Annual Report

The following press release was published by the United States Senate Committee on Finance Chairman's News on June 20, 2019. It is reproduced in full below.

Senate Finance Committee Ranking Member Ron Wyden, D-Ore., today released the following statement on the National Taxpayer Advocate’s annual report :

“The National Taxpayer Advocate’s report highlights the harm caused by a decade of Republican budget cuts. In addition to plummeting audits of the wealthy, IRS customer service is woefully inadequate, particularly when taxpayers with complex issues want to speak to a live person. While our Taxpayer First Act is critical to improving customer service, we need to ensure the agency has the resources it needs for implementation. The Trump administration, however, has inexplicably proposed a decrease in customer service funding. Democrats are pushing to give the agency sustained resources to improve customer service and enforcement."
