Wyden Statement on House Passage of Legislation to Force Disclosure From Anonymous Shell Companies

The following press release was published by the United States Senate Committee on Finance Chairman's News on Oct. 22, 2019. It is reproduced in full below.

Senate Finance Committee Ranking Member Ron Wyden, D-Ore., today released the following statement in reaction to House passage of legislation, the Corporate Transparency Act (H.R. 2513):

“The House today passed important legislation that would finally force disclosure from anonymous shell companies. Shell companies have facilitated rampant criminality, including real estate deals being used to launder illicit funds. Senator Rubio and I have twice offered companion legislation in the Senate, and with the White House supporting this effort there’s no excuse for further delay in acting on this legislation. Ending anonymous shell companies would make it easier for law enforcement to ‘follow the money’ when investigating complex financial crimes, and this needs to get done as soon as possible."
