Wyden Reaction to Lawsuit Against NRA

The following press release was published by the United States Senate Committee on Finance Chairman's News on Aug. 6, 2020. It is reproduced in full below.

Senate Finance Committee Ranking Member Ron Wyden, D-Ore., today issued the following statement in reaction to New York Attorney General Letitia James’ lawsuit against the National Rifle Association:

“The New York attorney general’s lawsuit builds on my investigation's findings that NRA officers have used the organization for personal gain. The NRA has become nothing more than a piggybank for leaders and insiders, which is why I called for an IRS audit of the NRA last year. Attorney General Letitia James appears to have taken the NRA’s abuse of its tax-exempt status far more seriously than the IRS. There’s no excuse for the IRS to sit on its hands while purported charities use tax-exempt resources to finance insiders’ lavish lifestyles and business ventures."
