Wyden Statement on Congressional Budget Office Budget and Economic Outlook Report

The following press release was published by the United States Senate Committee on Finance Chairman's News on July 21, 2021. It is reproduced in full below.

Senate Finance Committee Chair Ron Wyden, D-Ore., today released the following statement on the Congressional Budget Office Budget and Economic Outlook Report :

“The CBO’s report underscores that Democrats’ economic agenda is working for the American people and fueling the growth we need to fully recover from this crisis. After funding for health care and education, the financial relief in the American Rescue Plan that put money directly in the pockets of Americans-enhanced jobless benefits and relief checks-provided the most bang for the buck. This goes to show that you grow the economy from the middle out, not by showering tax cuts on mega-corporations and the top 1 percent. In fact, while I believe aid to businesses during the pandemic was important, it resulted in far less of a boost to GDP than direct help for American families. I’m going to maintain this focus on direct help to families as Democrats continue crafting our reconciliation package."
