“Washington DC, - Ways and Means Chairman Charles B. Rangel released the following statement after a bipartisan meeting of Committee Members this morning:
"Today the House Committee on Ways and Means held a bipartisan caucus to discuss the Alternative Minimum Tax. It was an informal discussion that focused on how this monstrous tax will hit 23 million working families if Congress does nothing," Rangel (D-NY) said today. “It is clear that the burden of the AMT is increasingly encroaching on middle and lower income families. Reforming the AMT is not about politics. It is not a Democratic or Republican problem. It is about restoring equity and fairness to our nation’s tax policy. This is a value that Ranking Republican Jim McCrery and I share, and I remain hopeful that a bipartisan solution can be reached."
