WASHINGTON - Democrats on the Ways and Means Committee last night passed an expansive health care bill to provide insurance coverage for millions of children and improve and strengthen Medicare for America`s seniors and people with disabilities. It was approved by a vote of 24 to 17.
“Passage of the CHAMP Act marks an important first step toward getting America’s health care system on the mend," said Chairman Charles B. Rangel (D-NY). “We have crafted a good bill that makes important investments in our children and while protecting and improving Medicare for seniors and people with disabilities. The CHAMP Act is good health policy and good national policy as well."
Earlier this week the leadership of the Ways and Means and Energy and Commerce committees unveiled the Children`s Health and Medicare Protection (CHAMP) Act of 2007 as legislation that provides for the health care needs from the "Greatest Generation" to the next generation.
The legislation, which is currently being considered by the Energy and Commerce Committee, is the product of months of the intensive hearings by the Health Subcommittees of Ways and Means and Energy and Commerce.
