WASHINGTON - Ways and Means Ranking Member Sander Levin (D-MI) today issued the below statement after Ways and Means Chairman Dave Camp (R-MI) announced this afternoon that the Committee will hold a hearing Oct. 25 on the U.S.-China Economic Relationship and China’s trade distorting policies. The hearing will be held Oct. 25 at 10 a.m. in 1100 Longworth House Office Building.
LEVIN: “This will be the Committee’s first hearing on China in the 10 months since Republicans assumed the majority. Just last week the Department of Commerce reported that our trade deficit with China has reached a record level - $29 billion in the month of August. Republican leadership continues to criticize the possibility of taking action to confront China’s currency manipulation even as it pursues inaction on every other trade distorting practice by the Chinese. We should be taking action on all possible fronts. Hundreds of thousands of American jobs are at stake."
