Levin Statement on Select Committee Talks

The following press release was published by the U.S. Congress Committee on Ways and Means on Oct. 27, 2011. It is reproduced in full below.

WASHINGTON - Ways and Means Ranking Member Sander Levin (D-MI) today issued the following statement regarding reports that Select Committee Republicans refuse to consider any real revenue as part of a deficit reduction package:

“As reported, Republicans’ stubborn refusal to come forth on real revenues as part of a deficit reduction package threatens any real progress in the Select Committee. Their unwillingness to ask anything of the very wealthiest even as they propose devastating cuts to Medicare and Social Security is totally unacceptable. Any agreement among Select Committee members must start with the recognition that Americans want a balanced approach to deficit reduction that also spurs job growth, not a one-sided directive that only hits seniors and the middle class."
