VIDEO: Ways and Means Democrats Urge Extension of Federal UI

The following press release was published by the U.S. Congress Committee on Ways and Means on Nov. 16, 2011. It is reproduced in full below.

WASHINGTON - House Ways and Means Committee Democrats, in speeches today on the House floor, urged an extension of federal unemployment benefits. Without action before Dec. 31, more than two million Americans will be cut off unemployment insurance by early February and six million by the end of 2012. Congress has never allowed the federal programs to expire with the unemployment rate close to where it is today - 9 percent. H.R. 3346 would preserve the programs through next year.
