WASHINGTON - Ways and Means Ranking Member Sander Levin (D-MI) today issued the following statement following the news of the passing of former Ways and Means Chairman Sam Gibbons:
“Sam Gibbons was a soldier of immense bravery and a Congressman of immense passion. As I saw everyday during the 10 years I served with Sam on the Ways and Means Committee, he possessed a deep respect for the democratic process, working with people on both sides of the aisle who shared that respect, while on occasion prodding those he felt were not showing the same respect. He was a hero to those he passionately represented at home; he was a hero of the entire nation at war and peace.“
