IRONY ALERT: GOP Shuts Down Government Over Obamacare, Blames Obamacare for Shutdown Impacts

The following press release was published by the U.S. Congress Committee on Ways and Means on Oct. 23, 2013. It is reproduced in full below.

In a particularly sad bit of irony, Republicans are now blaming the Affordable Care Act for the delay in the tax-filing season, which the IRS announced yesterday as a result of the 16-day government shutdown. You can do little more than shake your head at the following chain of events:

* Oct. 1: House Republicans shut down the government over the Affordable Care Act.

* Oct. 1-Oct. 16: IRS furloughs 90% of its employees because of the shutdown.

* Oct. 22: IRS announces that tax-filing season will be delayed by 1-2 weeks because of the shutdown.

* Oct. 23: House Republicans blame the Affordable Care Act for the delay in the tax filing season.

Now that’s some irony for you.
