Levin Statement on White House Removal of Certain Trade Benefits for Russia

The following press release was published by the U.S. Congress Committee on Ways and Means on May 7, 2014. It is reproduced in full below.

WASHINGTON - Ways and Means Committee Ranking Member Sander Levin (D-MI) today made the following statement after President Obama removed certain trade benefits for Russia under the General System of Preferences:

“I welcome the President’s decision to withdraw duty-free benefits to Russia under the GSP program. As the President has determined, Russia’s economy is sufficiently advanced that GSP benefits are no longer appropriate. I also must note that Russia’s actions with respect to Ukraine are deplorable. Russia is brazenly flouting international law and threatening military and economic force against its Ukrainian neighbor."
