The following press release was published by the U.S. Congress Committee on Ways and Means on Jan. 16, 2015. It is reproduced in full below.

WASHINGTON - Ways and Means Committee Ranking Member Sander Levin (D-MI) today made the following statement in response to the news that Marilyn Tavenner, the Administrator of CMS, plans to step down next month:

“Marilyn Tavenner demonstrated great leadership in strengthening Medicare and serving our nation’s seniors. In addition, she played an integral role in the roll-out and implementation of one of President Obama’s paramount achievements, making health insurance far more accessible and affordable for millions of Americans. Throughout her service to the American people, Marilyn confronted challenges with thoughtful approach and steady demeanor. Andy Slavitt’s considerable experience at CMS makes him well positioned to build on Marilyn’s many successes and to continue to provide the best possible health care services to the American people."
