Washington, DC - Today Kevin Brady, chairman of the Ways and Means Committee of the U.S. House of Representatives, announced the selection of new subcommittee chairs and subcommittee assignments for Republican Members of the committee. The new assignments were necessitated by the election of former committee chairman Paul Ryan as Speaker of the House, Brady’s selection to follow him as committee chair, and the selection of Congressman Tom Rice of South Carolina to fill the vacancy on the committee.
“These talented and deeply qualified members will lead our committee’s effort to advance a pro-growth agenda to get America back on the right track. These Republican subcommittee chairs and members will play a crucial role in taking real steps toward fixing our country’s broken tax code, reining in the IRS, reforming the nation’s welfare programs, expanding trade, replacing the Affordable Care Act and saving Social Security and Medicare for the long term."
Earlier today the Committee unanimously approved changes to its rules that 1) increased the size of the Health Subcommittee by one Republican Member and one Democrat Member, (2) renamed the Subcommittee on Select Revenue Measures as the Subcommittee on Tax Policy, and (3) increased the size of the Subcommittee on Tax Policy by two Republican Members and one Democrat Member.
The House Committee on the Budget will continue to be chaired by Chairman Price (GA). The other Ways and Means Republican Members serving on the Budget Committee will be Ms. Black (TN) and Mr. Renacci (OH).
