Brady Praises Renacci Bill to Protect American Taxpayers from Identity Theft

The following press release was published by the U.S. Congress Committee on Ways and Means on May 18, 2016. It is reproduced in full below.

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Kevin Brady (R-TX) issued the following statement after the House passed the Stolen Identity Refund Fraud Prevention Act (H.R. 3832). Congressmen Jim Renacci (R-OH) and John Lewis (D-GA) introduced this bipartisan legislation to protect American taxpayers from tax-related identity theft.

“Every year, people across the country discover they are a victim of tax-related identity theft. Congressman Jim Renacci turned his personal experience as a victim of identity theft into a legislative solution that will help protect all Americans. The bill we passed today will prevent fraud, increase transparency, and improve IRS customer service to better serve taxpayers. I appreciate Congressman Renacci’s leadership against a crime that impacts so many Americans."
