Levin Statement on July Jobs Report

The following press release was published by the U.S. Congress Committee on Ways and Means on Aug. 5, 2016. It is reproduced in full below.

WASHINGTON, DC - Ways and Means Committee Ranking Member Sander Levin (D-MI) today issued the following statement after the U.S. Department of Labor released its employment report for July:

“Today’s employment report shows that our economy has added about 15 million private-sector jobs since early 2010. We must continue to build on this clear record of progress, which includes cutting the unemployment rate in half, providing quality health care coverage to 20 million more Americans, and accelerating wage gains over the last year.

“While substantial progress has been made, there is still much more we should do to make our economy work for all Americans. A good first step would be for Republicans to stop blocking common sense reforms like raising the minimum wage, expanding job training and child care assistance, investing in our nation’s infrastructure, and closing egregious tax loopholes for the wealthy. It’s long past time for Republicans to end their obstruction and instead work with Democrats to help all Americans succeed."
