Neal Comments on Urban Institute Report Laying Out Implications of Partial ACA Repeal

WASHINGTON, DC - Rep. Richard Neal (D-MA), incoming Ranking Member of the House Ways & Means Committee, today issued the following statement in response to the Implications of Partial Repeal of the ACA through Reconciliation report issued by the Urban Institute this morning:

“Despite President-elect Trump telling “60 Minutes " that “were not going to have a two day period" between repeal and replace, Republicans have announced their intentions to move forward with a misguided plan to repeal without the faintest idea of what replace might look like. Just this week Speaker Ryan said that the latest Republican scheme to repeal and punt “would leave no one worse off." Today’s report from the Urban Institute proves that claim is patently false.

“Republican promises don't match their policies. The simple fact is that tens of millions of working Americans will ‎be made worse off, leaving our nation with a greater number of uninsured than before passage of the ACA and leaving middle class families saddled with more medical bills. Republicans plan to move forward with repeal without replace will cause great uncertainty for insurance markets and healthcare providers while disproportionately affecting working families who rely on the current law for a sense of health and economic security. Let there be no mistake about it: President-elect Trump and Congressional Republican are trying to score cheap political points at the direct expense of middle class Americans, and I think that’s wrong."
