The following press release was published by the U.S. Congress Committee on Ways and Means on Feb. 8, 2019. It is reproduced in full below.

WASHINGTON, DC - Ways & Means Chairman Richard Neal released the following statement on the passing of Chairman John Dingell, Jr. of Michigan:

“John Dingell loved the House of Representatives, his constituents, and above all, this country. Throughout his decades of service in Congress, he fought to make life better for his fellow Michiganders and all Americans. With tenacity and wit, Chairman Dingell was a champion for landmark causes - expanding health care, protecting the environment, supporting workers, and advancing civil rights. It was a privilege to have been his colleague in the House, an institution that continues to benefit from his historic legacy. My sympathies are with Debbie and her loved ones at this tremendously difficult time."
