WASHINGTON, DC - Today, the Committee on Ways and Means voted to publicly release documents showing that Joint Committee on Taxation previously used 6103 authority to request President Nixon’s tax returns. The Internal Revenue Service furnished those materials the same day the request was made.: LINK.
Upon the documents' release, Chairman Richard E. Neal (D-MA) said the following:
“The Committee requested six years of President Trump’s tax returns in April under our authority in Section 6103, as well as by subpoena. The IRS has not complied.
“The Committee today submitted materials to the House showing that Section 6103 was used by a tax committee to access President Nixon’s tax returns. The IRS provided those returns the same day. These included tax years prior to those released by President Nixon, as well as the returns of family members. It is noted in the materials that these returns were necessary because they were related to later tax years. This is precisely why we requested returns prior to 2017 for President Trump."
