Neal Statement on Ways and Means Passage of Health Profession Opportunity Grant Legislation

The following press release was published by the U.S. Congress Committee on Ways and Means on Oct. 22, 2019. It is reproduced in full below.

WASHINGTON, DC - Today, Ways and Means Committee Chairman Richard E. Neal (D-MA) issued the following statement after the committee passed H.R. 3398, the Pathways to Health Careers Act of 2019:

“This legislation will make the Health Profession Opportunity Grant program, which has a proven track record of success, available to workers in all 50 states, tribal communities, and the U.S. territories. Not only do HPOGs help struggling Americans get good jobs, they also strategically address our country’s health worker shortage. I’m grateful for the leadership of Worker and Family Support Subcommittee Chairman Danny Davis on this issue, and I applaud all of the members who contributed provisions to strengthen and improve this worthwhile program"

H.R. 3398, as amended, passed by a vote of 24-16.
