Neal Statement on Vote to Allow Remote Voting by Proxy and Remote Committee Proceedings During COVID-19 Crisis

The following press release was published by the U.S. Congress Committee on Ways and Means on May 15, 2020. It is reproduced in full below.

WASHINGTON, DC - Ways and Means Committee Chairman Richard E. Neal (D-MA) released the following statement after House passage of H. Res. 965:

“I voted in favor of this measure to ensure that the Ways and Means Committee and the full House of Representatives can continue to carry out our work on behalf of the American people during the COVID-19 crisis. With the availability of advanced technology, we’re now able to operate effectively while simultaneously observing CDC guidelines and protecting the health of our colleagues and constituents. However, we must closely monitor these proceedings to ensure the tools we use remain secure and uncompromised.

“As soon as the pandemic subsides and experts advise we can safely reconvene the Committee in person, I intend to do so."
