Chairman Neal Statement on New USTR Section 301 Investigations

The following press release was published by the U.S. Congress Committee on Ways and Means on June 3, 2020. It is reproduced in full below.

SPRINGFIELD, MA - Today, Ways and Means Committee Chairman Richard E. Neal (D-MA) issued the following statement regarding the U.S. Trade Representative’s (USTR) new Section 301 investigations into several countries’ proposed or adopted digital service taxes:

“My position on this matter hasn’t changed - I continue to oppose unilateral digital services taxes and support a multilateral solution. I hope Treasury can continue to engage with the OECD and work towards an outcome the protects U.S. workers and businesses. I also intend for the Committee to remain in close contact with USTR and Treasury regarding this issue. I hope that USTR is able to diversify its tools for enforcement and use them strategically in service of an optimal outcome."
