WASHINGTON, DC - Today, Ways and Means Committee Chairman Richard E. Neal (D-MA) released the following statement after the House of Representatives passed the ALS Disability Insurance Access Act of 2019:

“An ALS diagnosis is devastating news for patients and their families who face a painful medical and financial path that always ultimately ends in tragedy. This legislation provides some peace of mind to affected Americans, who will no longer face a lengthy waiting period to receive the Social Security Disability Insurance benefits they’ve earned. I’m glad this critical measure can now advance to become law, and I hope that Congress can extend similar relief to other beneficiaries in the 117th Congress."
