Chairman Neal Welcomes Stacey Plaskett’s Nomination to the Ways and Means Committee

The following press release was published by the U.S. Congress Committee on Ways and Means on Dec. 17, 2020. It is reproduced in full below.

WASHINGTON, DC - Today, Chairman Richard E. Neal (D-MA) released the following statement following the nomination of Congresswoman Stacey Plaskett (D-VI) to serve on the Ways and Means Committee in the 117th Congress:

“Stacey Plaskett is an excellent addition to the Ways and Means Committee who will bring a strong voice for the U.S. territories to our work, ensuring those Americans have a key seat at the table on some of the most important issues Congress undertakes. Her experience with the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee will be particularly valuable as we seek to make bold investments in that space and reenergize our economy. Ways and Means will continue to monitor the federal government’s implementation of COVID relief legislation in the months and years ahead, and the Congresswoman’s time on the Oversight and Reform Committee will allow her to be a helpful partner in that work. A fighter for poverty reduction, she shares Ways and Means Democrats’ commitment to expanding economic opportunity and eliminating disparities that leave too many communities unfairly disadvantaged in our nation. I look forward to Rep. Plaskett officially joining the Committee’s ranks in January."

Congresswoman Plaskett (D-VI) shared the following statement regarding her nomination: “I want to thank the Leadership of the Democratic Caucus for nominating me to serve on the Ways and Means Committee. My nomination demonstrates the commitment of our Caucus - not only to diversity but to give a seat at the table for voice not normally heard. I’m honored to be the first member from a territory to be nominated to Ways and Means. I hope to use my experiences as a public finance attorney to support Chairman Neal and the work of the Committee."
