WASHINGTON, DC- Tonight, House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Richard E. Neal (D-MA) released the following statement applauding President-elect Biden’s vision for the next COVID-19 relief package:
“With today’s announcement, President-elect Biden has put forth a bold, science-based rescue plan that appropriately addresses the hurt and devastation Americans face at the hands of the COVID-19 pandemic. It recognizes that while we hope the end of this crisis is near, for many, the struggle is only getting worse and more help is needed. New leadership will soon be in the White House, committed to ending this public health emergency and offering desperate workers and families the support they deserve.
“From extending unemployment insurance, to expanding key tax measures, to providing critical child care supports, this plan builds on several successful provisions spearheaded by the Ways and Means Committee that we know work. House Democrats have never stopped fighting to put as much money as possible directly into the pockets of those who need it the most, and I’m relieved this proposal includes another round of economic impact payments. These policies align with Ways and Means Democrats' commitment to fighting poverty and eliminating the deep health and economic inequities that plague our society.
“Throughout this crisis, I have been clear that until we eradicate the virus, we cannot expect our economy to bounce back. The next step after providing additional relief is working together to make historic investments in our country’s economic recovery, create new jobs, and build back better and more equitably than ever before."
