SPRINGFIELD, MA-House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Richard E. Neal (D-MA) released the following statement after President Biden nominated Chiquita Brooks-LaSure to serve as the next Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Administrator:

“As our nation relies on our health care programs now more than ever, Chiquita Brooks-LaSure is the experienced leader we need to swiftly recover from the pandemic and then strengthen our health care system in the years to come. Her expertise, years in public service, and deep understanding of the health needs of our country make her the right choice for a critically important role in the Biden Administration.

“She was a tremendous asset to the Ways and Means Committee, helping to guide the Affordable Care Act through implementation, and now, I look forward to working with her in tackling the most pressing health issues we face today. From continuing to fight the COVID-19 pandemic to improving nursing home accountability to promoting health equity, there is much to do to meet this moment, and I urge the Senate to expedite her confirmation so together, we can get to work on improving our health care system for all."
