U.S. Senators Jim Risch and Jeanne Shaheen, who serve as chairman and ranking member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, met with German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul at the United States Capitol. Following their meeting, they released a joint statement highlighting key points from their discussion.
“We were pleased to welcome Foreign Minister Wadephul to the United States Capitol for a timely meeting today. Germany and America share deep economic, cultural and security ties, which were evident in our conversation. We discussed the importance of our continued partnership to end Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine, the need to protect German and American interests, as well as the critical role NATO plays in the security of its members,” said Risch and Shaheen.
The meeting comes at a time when cooperation between Germany and the United States remains important for addressing ongoing challenges in Europe, particularly regarding Russia's actions in Ukraine. The senators emphasized that maintaining strong transatlantic relations is essential for both nations' security and broader alliance commitments.
