Chairman Neal Applauds President Biden’s American Families Plan

WASHINGTON, DC-Today, House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Richard E. Neal (D-MA) released the following statement applauding President Biden’s American Families Plan:

“President Biden is rounding out his first 100 days in office with another monumental proposal that matches the severity of the crisis before us and invests in the future of our children, workers, and ultimately, our country.

“From major investments in child care and paid leave to fixing our broken tax code and strengthening enforcement at the IRS, this package puts American families first, and will unlock the talent and opportunity our nation needs to thrive. The American Families Plan extends key Affordable Care Act tax credits that will reduce premium costs and put money back into pockets. Some details may vary between our proposals; however, President Biden and I are united by our shared purpose to improve the lives of American families. The Committee will explore how to move forward with permanent extensions to the Child Tax Credit, Earned Income Tax Credit, and Child and Dependent Care Credit, and I think we can do so while still responsibly investing in other top priorities.

“With momentum behind us, together, we will build on the progress of the American Rescue Plan to deliver on infrastructure in its many forms. The time to invest in the more perfect union we all want is now, and the Ways and Means Committee is ready to join President Biden in rising to the occasion."
