Ways and Means Republican Leader Kevin Brady (R-TX) issued the following statement on the Administration’s agreement with the European Union on steel and aluminum tariffs.

“I commend Ambassador Tai and Secretary Raimondo for concluding these difficult discussions in a way that makes important progress both for U.S. exporters and for American manufacturers, energy producers, and many others who depend on reliable European steel or aluminum suppliers.

“While today’s agreement is a step in the right direction toward addressing unfair trade while minimizing harm to Americans, I am concerned that this replaces some portion of our tariffs with enormously complex managed trade that could make it difficult for markets to adjust to changing conditions going forward.

“Regardless, this announcement ought to create momentum toward our goal of advancing free and fair trade with likeminded countries, even in the face of excess global capacity and massive industrial subsidies issued by China and others."
